So I'm trying to apply for a student loan. I called up a bank (one of the largest in the world) and requested information. My question was, "Can I apply for a loan on line?" Tony (maybe Tonie? Tonnie? Toni?) said, "Well, I'm not sure of the answer. Can you call back tomorrow between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time?" And I said, "Well, no. Can you ask someone, like your supervisor?" And she said, "OK. Can I put you on hold?" And I said, "Yes, please put me on hold." And she came back and said, "Mam, I checked with my supervisor and he said that you'll need to call back tomorrow. You can also check our Web site to find the information." And I said, "Well, I was on your Web site and I couldn't find the information. That was why I called."

At first I thought that Tony was extremely unhelpful. Then I wondered if I was being unreasonable. Maybe 24-hour service isn't always possible. She did tell me exactly when I could call back to talk to specialists who can help me. I can wait 12 hours.

huh, so I received notification from my school that my loan award is ready and then basically all I have to do is select a lender. last year, I remember them suggesting a lender to me, and they streamlined the process, but this year there was no info. so I went to the national loan database online and they have a lender already listed for the new loans, but no servicer. so what does that mean? I don't know I called my financial aid to figure this all out. all I wanted to know was whether everything was in order or if I need to do anything else.

finally, at the end of the automatic voice prompt I get to speak to someone...

she picks up and says "Hello," and then says to somebody else in her office "Why do I always have to pick up this shit?" and then back to me "Hello?"

I gave her my explanation. I don't think she listened to much of it.

"You have to select a lender."

"yeah, I know, but the website says..." and then I started to explain again until she cut me off.

"You need a lender for the loan to be processed. Did you select a lender??"

(pause) "No! But the website says that--"

"Give me you ID number" (I did) "Your loans are fine."

"Ok, good I guess that's all I wanted to make sure. So then there's nothing--"

(dial tone)

WTF!!!

Is that you Jon?

I always wonder what those people say in their interviews. "I want to work here but I don't want to do shit"?
